Our Father....

Let's take some time to think on prayer. Prayer is one of the ways we put Gods word in our life into action. We know a lot about Gods word, we study it, read it, learn it; then what do we do with it? When we pray, we are telling God we trust him and look to see him working in our lives. It is a conversation. We talk with our friends, it is necessary to talk to keep a friendship. So let's talk about prayer. First, let's spend some time talking about the Lord's Prayer. It, obviously, is the best prayer of Jesus taught it to his disciples. Daddy has been so wise to make it a regular habit to pray it with y'all. So let's think on it.

Our Father,
Who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.

Our Father...Can you imagine the surprise of the disciples to hear Jesus call God his Father? And encourage them to do the same?  When Jesus died for our sins, he made us co-heirs with himself; that means we have the same family inheritance. What is an inheritance? Well when parents die, they leave what they had on earth- their inheritance- to their children. A father will usually divide what he has equally among his children. So God is giving all his children equal blessing. Ephesians 1:7 says In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgivness of our trespasses, according the the riches of His grace that He lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding.  And Ephesians 1:18 Paul prays, I pray that they eyes of your heart may be enlightened to know what is the hope of His calling, what are the glorious riches of His inheritance among the saints, and what is the immearsurable greatness of His power to us who believe, according tot he working of His vast strength.

I pray to God through the name of Jesus. I think about Jesus being my way to God, the one who guards the door, the one who holds the phone on speaker to his ear, the one who forgave my sins so I can speak to him, the one who prays for me when I don't know how to pray. And I believe all of that happens by the power of the Holy Spirit who is in me. That's how I see the trilogy.

Who art in heaven.... So Jesus is in Heaven, seated because his work is done and God is there. They are above the chaos of this world. They are above the sin and confusion. They are above time. They are in Heaven.

Hallowed be... Y'all know what hallow means? To make Holy. So in my opinion, when we pray that phrase, we are asking for strength and wisdom to make Gods name holy, to show the world how great his name is. And it's asking that his name be made greater here on earth, for more people to know his name and make it Holy. (the definations below- the one on the left is the Greek defination- see the crazy Greek word at the top? the other is from the good ole dictionary)

Thy name... we have spent the last month looking at the names of Jesus. He represents the character of God the Father perfectly and God has revealed his name through the Bible too. If you would like to pray that his name be made more holy in your life and in the world, you can pray through his names as well. For instance- dear God, show me and the world today how you are the good shepherd, show us how you care for us with such great wisdom and kindness, show us how you feed us, protect us and lead us.

I love ya'll, I hope this makes yall want to take a few mintures to pray to our Great God!

So who are we?

We've been talking about who Jesus is. Anyone wonder who you are?  There are 2 passages I'd like to look at... Isaiah 62: 1-2, 12 (y'all know how much of these teachings have come from Isaiah, its not a surprise God made sure to tell us who we are relating to these prophesies about Jesus) For Zion's sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not be quiet, until her righteousness goes forth as brightness, and for her salvation as a burning torch. The nations shall see your righteousness and you shall be called by a new name that the mouth of the Lord will give . You shall no longer be termed Forsaken, and your land shall no more be termed Desolate, but you shall be called My Delight is in Her, and your land Married; for the Lord delights in you, and your land shall be married... And they shall be called The Holy People , The Redeemed of the Lord ; and you shall be called Sought Out, A City Not Forsaken .  1 Peter 2:8b-10 They stumble because they d...

Jesus Christ

Day 24: Jesus Christ Luke 1:26- Gabriel: “Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!”… “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.” Luke 2:21 And at the end of eight days, when he was circumcised, he was called Jesus, the name give by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.  God didn’t send Jesus to earth with hopes it would work out. Even more so, Jesus wasn’t born on earth and evolve into God’s call. There was a plan and a purpose from the beginning. The same is true for your life, by the way. And knowing this Jesus will help empower us as we go.  1 Corinthians 15:1 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preach...

Shiloh

Day 20: Shiloh Genesis 49:10 The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet,  until tribute comes to him; and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples.  Alrighty, lots going on here. First of all, this is just before Jacob is about to die. He calls his sons together and speaks prophecies over all their lives. Some are good, some are harsh.  Remember that family is super, crazy important to God. He chose the family to pass his story along. He created Adam from dust and made Eve from one of Adams ribs but after that, he carried his turn along in families. But he didn’t just tell the story of Himself through fathers and mothers passing along the story to their children, he kept the prophecy in his family too. So much so that when we ready the lineage in the beginning of the New Testament in Matthew, we can pick out names and we know how they fit in. That family was not perfect, and neither is their story, it is not squ...
