For yours is the Kingdom....

Lauren is at a big advantage on this one today because she has already heard it. We started Wednesday night discipleship this fall on the week that Kerry died. I couldn't look at the girls and not spend time spreading the hope that we have. So we talked about the Kingdom of God...

The Kingdom of God is not just in Heaven and it is not just here on earth. The Kingdom of God is whereever Jesus is King. That to me is worth saying again, The Kingdom of God is whereever Jesus is King. So we are now in this Kingdom and will be in this kingdom for all eternity. It is a Kingdom that has already come and a kingdom that we are waiting for. Same Kingdom. Same King.

What is a King? "the male ruler of an independent state, especially one who inherits the position by right of birth." And what is this state that Jesus is King? Well it began with Abraham and spread to his children and his children's children and his children's children's children and then when Jesus came, he made all those who received him as Lord to join that family.

Jesus was proclaimed King at his birth...
Matthew 2:1-2  Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jersulem, saying, “Where is he who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.

And before his death...
John 18:37  Then Pilate said to him, “So you are a king?”
Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world- to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.”

So here on earth, if we want to live a life that honors our King, we need to live a life filled with his voice, his truth, his word.

And if we want to know how to do that, we just ask...
James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

What will it be like in Heaven where Jesus is King?

You know that feeling last night of wanting Georgia to be the best team? Hoping they can do enough to get the win? Wondering if this touchdown was enough or holding them at that punt was enough? Yeah, that's not the feeling in Heaven.

John 14:1-7 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?2 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”

Psalm 23:6b I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

Im going to cut this up a bit but I want you to get the main point...
Revelation 17: 7, 8, 14 ... But the angel siad to me, "Why do you marvel? I will tell you the mystery of... the beast... the beast that you saw was, and is not and is about to rise from the bottomless pit and go to destruction... they will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him are called chosen and faithful."

Do you see why we cheer for our team to win? Do you see why we always want our good guys to win? It is setting up eternity. There is a battle going on now! But we know how it ends! Its not uncommon to feel like the yards are not adding up in our favor, but Jesus is King. The suffering and trails we feel here do hurt and they are hard, but Jesus is King. He conquered sin and death for us! His is the Kingdom!

When we proclaim "Yours is the Kingdom"  at the end of the Lords prayer, we are reminding our hearts and strengthening our frames. Jesus is King! His is the Kingdom!

So who are we?

We've been talking about who Jesus is. Anyone wonder who you are?  There are 2 passages I'd like to look at... Isaiah 62: 1-2, 12 (y'all know how much of these teachings have come from Isaiah, its not a surprise God made sure to tell us who we are relating to these prophesies about Jesus) For Zion's sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not be quiet, until her righteousness goes forth as brightness, and for her salvation as a burning torch. The nations shall see your righteousness and you shall be called by a new name that the mouth of the Lord will give . You shall no longer be termed Forsaken, and your land shall no more be termed Desolate, but you shall be called My Delight is in Her, and your land Married; for the Lord delights in you, and your land shall be married... And they shall be called The Holy People , The Redeemed of the Lord ; and you shall be called Sought Out, A City Not Forsaken .  1 Peter 2:8b-10 They stumble because they d...

Jesus Christ

Day 24: Jesus Christ Luke 1:26- Gabriel: “Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!”… “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.” Luke 2:21 And at the end of eight days, when he was circumcised, he was called Jesus, the name give by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.  God didn’t send Jesus to earth with hopes it would work out. Even more so, Jesus wasn’t born on earth and evolve into God’s call. There was a plan and a purpose from the beginning. The same is true for your life, by the way. And knowing this Jesus will help empower us as we go.  1 Corinthians 15:1 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preach...

Shiloh

Day 20: Shiloh Genesis 49:10 The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet,  until tribute comes to him; and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples.  Alrighty, lots going on here. First of all, this is just before Jacob is about to die. He calls his sons together and speaks prophecies over all their lives. Some are good, some are harsh.  Remember that family is super, crazy important to God. He chose the family to pass his story along. He created Adam from dust and made Eve from one of Adams ribs but after that, he carried his turn along in families. But he didn’t just tell the story of Himself through fathers and mothers passing along the story to their children, he kept the prophecy in his family too. So much so that when we ready the lineage in the beginning of the New Testament in Matthew, we can pick out names and we know how they fit in. That family was not perfect, and neither is their story, it is not squ...
