When we looked at Jesus as the Alpha and Omega, we looked at Colossians 1:15 that says Jesus is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rules or authorities- all things were created through him and for him.
So Jesus was the first born of creation and then he got busy creating the rest of creation.
At Christmas we celebrate his other birth here on earth as fully God and fully man.
What do we learn from that? What does that mean in our life?
Thinking about being born again, I think about Nicodemus’s question:
John 3:3-8
Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.”
Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”
Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of flesh is flesh, and that which is born of Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Sprit.”
What Jesus is trying to help Nicodemus learn here is that there is a visible and invisible world. Those verses in Colossians say Jesus created all things, visible and invisible.
Jesus was invisible until he came to earth as a baby, he put on a physical body so we could see him move and act and listen to his voice teach about the Father. We were born physical and are called to be born spiritual. Throughout the Bible we are called to be aware that the invisible is just as real and gives us glimpses into that world. Lets stay in the Bible and keep listening so that our faith and understanding of these spiritual things can grow.
