Day 11: Immanuel
Isaiah 7:14
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
Matthew 1:20-23
…an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, ,and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save the people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:
“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
And they shall call his name Immanuel”
(Which means, God with us).
If we are living in the covenant of the New Testament, why is it important that we keep the Old Testament? This is one of the key reasons: we gain confidence in the Lord when we read the prophecies like these and they happened. God did what He said He was going to do. Jesus came in the way God said He would come and He did what He came to do. This confidence helps us to have faith that the things he has spoken again to what will happen will. Our God is God who keeps his word.
Hebrews 1:1-3
Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, who he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high…
God spoke through prophets like Isaiah until Jesus came and then He spoke through Jesus. What are some things Jesus said?
Matthew 28:18-20
And Jesus came and said to the, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Isaiah said Jesus would be called Immanuel, God with us.
When Jesus was here on earth, he was Immanuel, God with us.
After Jesus rose from the dead, he said, I am with you always.
What a comforting promise that should give us hope and strength.
2 Thessalonians 2:16-17
Now may the Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts and establish then in every good work and word.
Amen.
