Day 21: Savior
John 4:42
They said to the woman (as in the woman at the well), “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Savior of the world.”
We looked at this glorious story where Jesus offers a gift of the unseen world- living water- and her beautiful response back on the day we looked at Jesus as Messiah. So Im not going to go back there.
Listen to what the people are saying: they listened to her testimony, it made an impact on their life so they went and listened for themselves. Now let’s consider who we are listening to tell us about Jesus. We have some tremendous teachers in our lives, not just here in Dublin, but bc of this great age we are living in, we have teachers from all over. I think the absolute best teachers leave an impression on us that make us want to do this: go and listen more for ourselves. The best teachers point us back to the word. I also hope we are this in others lives, I hope that our lives point to the truth of who Jesus is and make them want to know more about Jesus.
Because our name of Jesus today is Savior, I want us to just simply look at New Testament verses that call him Savior and let them speak to our heart, mind and soul. I pray His word will keep having an impact on our lives and make us more like Him.
Ephesians 5:23
For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior.
Philippians 3:17-21
Brothers, join in imitating me, and keep your eyes on those who walk according to the example you have in us. For many, of whom I have often told you even with tears, walk as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthy things. But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself. Therefore my brothers, whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm thus in the Lord, my beloved.
1 Timothy 4:8-10
For while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promises for the present life and also for the life to come. The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance. For to this end we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe.
2 Timothey 2:8-10
Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, no of me as his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God, who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began, and which now has been manifested through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.
Titus 3:4-7
But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing and regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
When I read and typed these, I thought of so many lessons that have been before us this advent. The character of Christ confirms its self over and over through these stories as a perfect thread throughout the Bible. I pray you continue to grow in confidence and faith in our Savior.
